My 2 week residency here in the New Forest is in a studio above a blacksmiths workshop and I work every day to the accompaniment of the sounds of steel being heated, beaten and methodically shaped. Lee, pictured here, is a highly skilled craftsmen and he produces a range of very fine architectural pieces. I will show you some of his work in later posts.
I sometimes complete an 8 mile circuit on my bike from Ely via the Fenland village of Coveney. Yes, I can still manage to do this. Wherever you are on the route, you can more or less always see the ‘ship of the fens’ just on the horizon. On the road to Little Downham I pass by flat open fields and agricultural farmland; visual changes are usually confined to farming activity, weather conditions and seasonal transitions. I enjoy the peace, the tranquility and serenity……its good for the soul (if we have one)……today was different.
