Fenland Landscape in Bitumen, Cold Wax, Plaster, Sand, Enamel, Pumice & Emulsion.

In painting, unconventional materials generate unexpected effects and unpredictable outcomes. They interact in interesting ways. The control offered by conventional artists’ paints and equipment can be reassuring but also a creative strait jacket.  Knowing in advance what you will get can lead to conformity and the realisation of preconceived ideas. Deploying different materials is a high risk strategy but it opens up new possibilities, techniques and ways of seeing.

This is a 100 x 100 cm mixed media painting on canvas.
